Situated in an idyllic and highly conspicuous position, the picturesque Kreuzenstein Castle is located on a wooded hilltop overlooking the village of Leobendorf, a few kilometers north of Vienna between the cities Korneuburg and Stockerau.
The castle’s majestic position, 266 meters above sea level in the immediate vicinity of the intersection of the Danube river and the Vienna Woods, has made it a powerful strategic defense system throughout the centuries and especially during the Middle Ages. From here, the lords of the castle were not only ruling over large parts of the Tulln field and the Korneuburg basin, but were also surveying the nearby city of Vienna as well as vast areas of Lower Austria.
